I assume he''s looking for the date his actual sample was manufactured on, or if it is new vs old stock.
And from the serial number, he can't get that info. All you get from the links is what time the model was first released to no longer made. You don't actually need the serial number to determine that. The Nikon serial numbers don't run in chronological order, for the most part.
A higher Nikon serial number does not always mean it's a newer sample. In the past, Nikon has even switched up numbering system one model to the next. And that is clearly wrong as my late, lamented previous reply showed. You know, the one that quoted Thom Hogan's article on Nikon serial numbers. Nikon often changes the numbering characteristics from one model to the next. As Hogan was pointing out, even the way they differentiate one region from another, in the serial number, can change.
